Nokori Chess

Every move captures a piece. In the end, one remains.

Pieces move as in chess: tap or drag.

4×4 · Mittel

Three rules

  1. Every move captures.

A piece moves onto a square where another piece stands and takes it off the board.

  2. Moves as in chess.

King, queen, rook, bishop, knight and pawn move as in chess.

  3. One remains.

The puzzle is solved when only one piece is left. If a king is on the board, it can't be captured and remains.

nokori

Japanese for “what remains”.

Every puzzle is checked: from level Easy up, it has exactly one solution. And new ones keep coming.

Seven levels, from 3×3 to 6×6

For everyone who loves puzzles – young or old, with or without chess experience. Children can join in as soon as they know how the pieces move. If you are learning or practising chess, you train what is hardest along the way: knights and bishops. From Expert on, even experienced chess players will find real brain-teasers. A puzzle for five minutes in between, a Blitz against the clock, or in the app a duel to challenge your friends.

Tap a level to play it on the board above.

The app

A chess puzzle every day at your level – with exactly one solution.

The app is currently being played in a small test group. After that it will be available for phones and tablets.

Every day

A puzzle of the day for every level, the same for everyone. Plus a streak with a flame, a leaderboard and a result line to share that gives nothing away.

Climb

Seven levels from Kids to Grandmaster. Solve three puzzles of a higher level without a hint and you move up. Points are never lost; after Master come Dan grades.

Head to head

Challenge friends with the same puzzle via a link, or play a ghost duel against players of similar strength. The leaderboard shows week, today, grandmaster, Blitz and the all-time roll of honour.

Against the clock

Blitz in three modes: Easy with extra time, Standard with records, Beast with no hints and double points.

Grandmaster of the week

An especially hard puzzle every Sunday. Solve it in Beast mode to unlock the Beaster look and earn the red Beast mark on the leaderboard.

For you

Stats with solve rate and best times, favourites and history, six colours and five patterns to unlock, target squares as a learning aid. No account: a code moves your progress to another device.

The phone is playable, including Blitz with the circle above the board.
